Stocks rallied after Democrats won both the House and the Senate, an outcome investors read as divided government that is less likely to pass sweeping policy. Oil did as much work as politics: crude fell more than 8% on bets the result adds pressure to end the Iran war, pulling energy shares down nearly 5% and helping Treasury yields slip. Gains were broad outside technology, with Amazon up about 7% and Apple and Microsoft each up about 6% to records. The weak spot was the AI build-out trade: chipmakers such as Nvidia fell, and power producers Vistra and NRG dropped more than 13% on worries about tighter rules for data centers. That split is why the Nasdaq 100 rose less than 1% while the Dow rose 3%.
