The Quarter in Brief
ExxonMobil reported its third quarter of 2026, the three months ended September 30, before the market opened on October 30. Sales and other operating revenue were $110.5 billion, up 32.6% from $83.3 billion a year earlier. Reported earnings per share were $3.72, against $1.76. Adjusted earnings per share, the company's measure that leaves out large one-off items and estimated timing effects on its derivatives, were $4.23, against $1.84 on the same basis a year ago.
Both were ahead of expectations: analysts had expected about $4.12 of adjusted earnings a share and $104.9 billion of revenue, according to MarketBeat. What made the quarter different was refining. Earnings from Energy Products, the segment that refines crude oil into fuels, rose to $7.2 billion from $1.8 billion a year earlier, as the industry refining margin that ExxonMobil tracks averaged $50.30 a barrel against $17.50. That one segment accounts for about two-thirds of the rise in the company's profit.
