Earnings Recap: ADP Raises Its Outlook, but the Shares Slip

ADP's fiscal first-quarter revenue rose 6% to $5.49 billion and adjusted earnings per share rose 13% to $2.82, slightly ahead of forecasts, and it raised its revenue and earnings outlook for the year.

The Quarter in Brief

ADP, the payroll and human resources company, reported its first quarter of fiscal 2027, the three months ended September 30, 2026, before the market opened on October 28. Total revenues were $5.49 billion, up 6% from $5.18 billion a year earlier. Reported earnings per share were $2.83, up 14% from $2.49. Adjusted diluted earnings per share, the company's own measure that here leaves out only a small gain on its venture investments, were $2.82, up 13%.

Both figures were slightly ahead of what analysts had expected: about $5.48 billion of revenue and about $2.77 of adjusted earnings per share. What set the quarter apart was the outlook. ADP raised its forecast for fiscal 2027 revenue growth to about 6%, from 5% to 6%, and for adjusted earnings per share growth to 10% to 12%, from 9% to 11%, helped by more interest earned on the money it holds for clients' payrolls.
