The Quarter in Brief
Boston Scientific reported its third quarter of 2026, the three months ended September 30, before the market opened on October 28. Net sales were $5.14 billion, up 1.5% from $5.07 billion a year earlier. Reported earnings per share were $0.40, down from $0.51. Adjusted earnings per share, the company's own measure that leaves out items such as the amortization of acquired intangible assets, restructuring, litigation and acquisition charges, were $0.73, down from $0.75.
Sales came in a little above the $5.06 billion to $5.12 billion analysts had expected, and adjusted earnings per share were in line with or slightly below estimates of $0.73 to $0.75, depending on the provider. Both were well short of the company's own guidance from July, which had called for sales growth of 3% to 5% and adjusted earnings per share of $0.80 to $0.82. What set this quarter apart was a cybersecurity incident found on August 25, which cut off access to systems the company uses to make products and to process and ship orders. Management estimates it took about 3 percentage points off sales growth and about $0.07 off adjusted earnings per share.
