The Quarter in Brief
Super Micro Computer (Supermicro), which designs and builds servers and complete data-centre systems, reported the first quarter of its fiscal 2027, the three months ended September 30, 2026, after the market closed on November 3. Net sales were $19.95 billion, up 297.5% from $5.02 billion a year earlier. Reported earnings per share were $1.75, against $0.26. Non-GAAP earnings per share, the company's own measure that leaves out stock-based pay and its tax effect, were $1.81, against $0.35.
Both were well ahead of expectations: the consensus compiled by Financial Modeling Prep was $17.53 billion of sales and $1.23 of non-GAAP earnings per share. They were also far above the company's own August guidance of $14.5 billion to $15.5 billion of sales. What made the quarter different was the sheer size of the step: sales rose 79% in three months, from $11.12 billion in the June quarter, which the company put down primarily to increased demand for its AI platforms. Gross margin, at 12.7%, was higher than a year earlier but well below the 17.5% of the June quarter.
