The Federal Reserve held its benchmark rate at 3.75% to 4% but in a 10-2 vote, with Governor Lisa Cook and Cleveland Fed President Beth Hammack dissenting in favor of a quarter-point hike, and futures markets now put the odds of a December hike at about 85%. Stocks rose for a third straight day anyway, with the S&P 500 up 0.3%, as Oracle jumped about 11% on its funding plan for AI data centers and Vertiv rose 16.5% after a large earnings beat. Utilities and real estate lagged as the 10-year Treasury yield climbed back above 5%. After the bell the picture split, with Microsoft up after its results and Alphabet down roughly 8%.
